Halloween Movies & Television
In attempting to develop new ideas for a season or holiday, sometimes you have to consult a professional set designer/decorator. I have one of those but I still love to see what someone else does with the same colors and concepts. Being from Southern California, Disney has been my go to studio for quite some time, especially now that they are doing more and more with the holidays. I have hundreds of photos of the Halloween decorations and they serve as my inspiration year after year. They are the best at determining a “fun” atmosphere and how to set a good time mood. The other sources of inspiration are television & movies. Now that the DVD revolution is here, collections of holiday episodes are available. “Roseanne” was one of the best at contemporary Halloween celebration episodes. The vintage or “classics” are “The Addams Family”, “The Munsters”, and, of course, “Bewitched”. Lots available to watch on YouTube. I don’t care about the storylines – just show me the décor. The channels also love to run marathons and days of Halloween scary movies. I hate the modern horrors: Elm Street, etc. Sorry, Wes Cravens. Just not my goblet of blood. But we do love some of the gentler tales: “Hocus Pocus”, “Practical Magic”, and “The Witches of Eastwick”.
